Intelligent Handover Decision Using IEEE 802.21 in Mobile IPTV
نویسندگان
چکیده
This letter proposes a new mechanism for network configuration on a mobile device that provides Point of Attachment (PoA) specific information using IEEE 802.21 and DHCP before moving to a new PoA. This allows the mobile device to prepare for intelligent handover decision either stateless address configuration or stateful address configuration when entering an IPv6 network. It allows the mobile device to reduce time delay for IP address configuration in the new PoA. Implementation and evaluation results show that the proposed mechanism can be an acceptable network configuration mechanism for providing seamless television watching in IPv6 mobile networks, even when in motion. key words: IEEE 802.21, Mobile IPTV, IPv6.DHCPv6

Locating IEEE 802.21 Mobility Services Using DNS
This document defines application service tags that allow service location without relying on rigid domain naming conventions, and DNS procedures for discovering servers that provide IEEE 802.21-defined Mobility Services. Such Mobility Services are used to assist a Mobile Node (MN) supporting IEEE 802.21, in handover preparation (network discovery) and handover decision (network selection). The...

This document defines new Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCPv4 and DHCPv6) options that contain a list of IP addresses and a list of domain names that can be mapped to servers providing IEEE 802.21 type of Mobility Service (MoS) (see RFC 5677). These Mobility Services are used to assist a mobile node (MN) in handover preparation (network discovery) and handover decision (network selectio...

متن کاملSupporting mobility in an IMS-based P2P IPTV service: A proactive context transfer mechanism
In recent years, IPTV has received an increasing amount of interest from the industry, commercial providers and the research community, alike. In this context, standardization bodies, such as ETSI and ITU-T, are specifying the architecture of IPTV systems based on IP multicast. An interesting alternative to support the IPTV service delivery relies on the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) paradigm to distribut...
متن کاملEfficient Handover Scheme for Mobile IPv4 over IEEE 802.11 N etworks with IEEE 802.21 Triggers
Handover performance is an important factor for wireless networks, especially nowadays, when multimedia services are becoming increasingly available over the wireless devices. However, users expect uncompromised mobility when using the service. Thus, the support of multimedia services is not possible if handover is inefficient. At the same time it is clear that a strict separation between IP La...
